More fun facts about ancient Celtic marriage laws: There were no laws against interclass or interracial marriage, no laws against open homosexual relationships (although they weren’t considered ‘marriages’ since the definition of a marriage was ‘couple with child’), no requirement for women to take their husband’s names or give up their property, but comedians couldn’t get married

EYEBROWS
wait what’s going on? I haven’t heard anything about this

It’s kind of a long story…

Market Basket is a major grocery store chain in New England that’s known for treating its employees very well and having low prices.

Employees are allowed to take part in profit sharing, part-time workers are paid above minimum wage and receive regular raises (an experienced cashier can make 40k a year plus benefits), store managers often make over 100k, lots of bonuses are given, many retire with 1million, etc. And most attribute these benefits to the CEO Artie T., who’s loved by employees.

The short of it is that board members ousted Artie T. out of majority stake of the company (to something like 45% of it) and replaced him with his cousin Artie S. with plans of changing how the company’s run.

So for SIX. WHOLE. WEEKS. MB employees have been protesting Artie T’s demotion on and off the clock. But that’s not all. CUSTOMERS have boycotted MB and shopped at more expensive places. SUPPLIERS refused to supply food to the stores. The stores have literally been EMPTY for WEEKS. Practically everyone supported Artie T. and the MB employees, except for the MB higher-ups. Artie T. has been trying for weeks to negotiate majority stake of the company again.

And late last night they were finally able to strike a deal, Artie T. purchased majority stake in the company, and thousands are now able to return to work/their favorite grocery store chain!!!

BUT YES this is what has gone on in New England this summer and it’s crazy and inspiring and I don’t know why no one here’s talking about it.

i wish that i was back in new hampshire right now just so i could stop in a market basket and congratulate employees and buy stuff to help out or something like way to go guys!!!

i’m really surprised tumblr’s said nothing of this whole fiasco though since it’s a great example of what treating your employees well can do (or maybe tumblr doesn’t wanna talk because it shows good in capitalism or something who knows)

seeing the killers trending and brandon flowers releasing a new solo album is making me all kinds of happy <3
